With the upcoming opening of two new buildings, the closing of a school, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/students-families\/student-registration\/elementary-school-districts-by-street\/\" title=\"\">redistricting<\/a> for the 2024-25 school year, WPS has created a detailed schedule of events to share with the community. This page was last updated on <strong>May 10, 2024<\/strong> and will be further updated as details become finalized and\/or events are added. <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1rDpBrPWBUDMPsg4BgHocvPruUcP_icTb\/view?usp=sharing\" title=\"\">A color-coded PDF of this list is also available.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2023-24 School Year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>September 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hardy Topping Off<\/strong> &#8211; Brief ceremony was held during the school day for the school community. Beam signing by students, staff, town officials was on 8\/31. <a href=\"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/blog\/2023\/09\/05\/hardy-community-marks-topping-off-of-new-school\/\" title=\"\">See photos and more information from the event. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>October 3:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>School Committee Meeting &#8211; <strong>Present plans and timeline<\/strong> to School Committee and community. The time capsule includes artifacts that will teach the audience of the future about the Hardy School in 2024 and the present day culture at large. Artifacts included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>school yearbook<\/strong> from the Hardy class of 2023 that contains photos of the current Hardy School building, groundbreaking ceremony, and modern day culture (student clothing, interests etc).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>sample of modern day technology<\/strong> including an iPad, Keyboard, and mouse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>One Wellesley T-shirt<\/strong> that all Wellesley school children received in 2023 and names the 7 elementary schools currently in use in Wellesley.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student writing:  <strong>Letters to future Hardy students<\/strong> by the current 5th graders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Results from a student survey that included the <strong>favorite book, movie, song, and recess activity<\/strong> as voted by Hardy students in 2023.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>favorite book voted by students<\/strong>:  <em>Lion Lights- My Invention That Made Peace with Lions<\/em> by Richard Turere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>January\/February:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Public review of <strong>redistricting map<\/strong> and School Committee approval of any adjustments. The WPS Administration recommended changes to the map on<strong> January 23<\/strong>, and School Committee approved the changes on <strong>January 30<\/strong>. Please see <a href=\"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/blog\/2024\/01\/19\/proposal-to-update-elementary-redistricting-map\/\" title=\"\">this link for more information<\/a> on the changes and process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 12 &amp; 15:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>School-day <strong>tours of new school for Hunnewell students<\/strong> &#8211; K-2 on Monday 2\/12; 3-5 on Thursday 2\/15. Students take a bus, tour the school and have lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 15:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evening <strong>open house opportunity for Hunnewell parents<\/strong> &#8211; Similar structure to back to school night starting with grades K-2, all parents meet together, then grades 3-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 16:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>End-of-day clap out<\/strong> for Hunnewell students at swing space host schools (Bates, Hardy, Sprague, Upham).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Week of February 19 (February Break):&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunnewell teachers\/staff move from swing space and <strong>set up new classrooms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 26:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hunnewell Opening Day\/Ribbon Cutting<\/strong> &#8211; Students\u2019 first day in the new school &#8211; combine with a ceremony for the community to mark the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Winter\/Spring TBD:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>School Committee <strong>discussion\/updates on future use of Upham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May 18 (Saturday):&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hunnewell Grand Opening event<\/strong> in the school&#8217;s &#8220;cafetorium.&#8221; Brief celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hunnewell community tours <\/strong>from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. during Wellesley\u2019s Wonderful Weekend, in partnership with the Town Celebrations Committee. Promote Hardy Lights Out and Upham Celebration events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 10 (Tentative):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hardy Lights Out Event<\/strong> &#8211; Evening event for the Hardy School community to honor the building\u2019s 100 years of service to the students before it is demolished to make way for the opening of the new school. Date may change depending on the number of snow days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 11 (Tentative)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Celebration of Upham Event <\/strong>&#8211; Opportunity for the Upham School community to celebrate and honor its service to the students since 1957. Date may change depending on the number of snow days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Last week of school:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Final Upham Moving on Ceremony<\/strong> for 5th Graders &#8211; Date to be determined based on number of snow days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June TBD:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Redistricting Tours<\/strong>.
